FedNow is live on Due: instant USD pay-ins and payouts
- Due now supports FedNow for USD pay-ins and payouts, alongside ACH and Fedwire, through the same API.
- FedNow settles each payment individually in seconds, 24/7/365, with a $10 million network limit per transfer.
- Payouts can be funded from USDC and pay-ins can convert to stablecoins, so FedNow connects US bank accounts and stablecoin balances on any day of the week.
Due now supports FedNow for USD pay-ins and payouts. Teams building on Due can send and receive dollars over a network that settles in seconds, at any hour, including weekends and holidays, using the same API they already use for ACH, Fedwire, SEPA, and stablecoins.
Until now, US transfers on Due ran on ACH (T+0 to T+1) and Fedwire (under two hours, business days only). FedNow adds a third option for the transfers that can't wait for a business day.
This post covers what FedNow is, what it changes for your product, and how to start sending and receiving over it.
What is FedNow?
FedNow is the Federal Reserve's instant payment service. It settles individual credit transfers between US financial institutions in seconds, 24/7/365, and launched in July 2023.
Each payment settles on its own, in central bank money, so funds reach settlement finality and are available to the recipient as soon as the transfer completes. Nothing is batched, and nothing waits for a cutoff. That is the core difference from ACH, which processes payments in batches on business days.
A few network facts are worth knowing before you build on it:
- The network limit is $10 million (USD) per transfer, raised from $1 million in November 2025 (Federal Reserve)
- Each participating bank can set a lower limit based on its own risk parameters (Federal Reserve)
- More than 1,800 financial institutions have signed up since launch, as of July 2026 (Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City)

What FedNow on Due means for your product
FedNow runs in both directions on Due. The diagram below shows how each flow moves between a stablecoin balance and a US bank account.
Instant USD payouts funded from stablecoins
Send USD to any US bank account reachable on FedNow. Payouts can be funded with USDC, which Due quotes to USD at a 1:1 rate with fees shown separately, so a USDC balance becomes dollars in a recipient's US bank account with the bank leg settling in seconds.
That matters most for flows where your users are waiting on the other side: a contractor expecting Friday's pay, a seller cashing out on Sunday, or an exchange user withdrawing at 2 a.m.
Instant USD pay-ins that convert to stablecoins
Receive USD over FedNow through one-time deposit details for a transfer, or through a USD virtual account with Erebor, the bank partner Due uses for FedNow. An Erebor account uses one account and routing number for ACH, wire, and FedNow. USD virtual accounts with other providers keep receiving ACH and wire only. Incoming dollars convert automatically into the stablecoin you set as the destination, ready to hold, convert, or pay out.
For on-ramp and top-up flows, this removes the overnight gap between a user sending money and seeing it in their account.
Use cases for FedNow on Due
FedNow fits anywhere speed or timing is part of the product:
- Payroll and contractor payouts that land outside banking hours
- On-demand marketplace and creator payouts
- Exchange and wallet withdrawals to US bank accounts at any hour
- Instant on-ramp deposits from US bank accounts into USDC
- Remittances paid out to US recipients the moment they're sent
FedNow vs. ACH vs. Fedwire on Due
FedNow doesn't replace ACH or Fedwire. It covers the cases the other two can't, so most teams will use all three.
Not every US bank is on FedNow yet, and some participate as receive-only, so they can accept FedNow payments but not send them (Federal Reserve). If a recipient's bank isn't reachable on FedNow, route the transfer over ACH or Fedwire instead. For more on how settlement timing affects cash flow, see payment settlement cycles explained.
How to send and receive over FedNow with the Due API
FedNow uses the same endpoints as every other rail on Due. If you already send ACH through Due, the flow is the same with a different rail.
- Call GET /v1/channels to retrieve the FedNow channel, its speed, fees, and required account schema. See rails and channels.
- Create a recipient with US bank details (routing and account number).
- Request a quote and create the transfer on the FedNow rail. See the transfer flow.
- Track status through webhooks and update your users the moment funds land.
